Erected in the reign of King Rama I it is one of Bangkok's most important historical sites. The Giant Swing was formerly used in the old Brahmin ritual known as Tri-yampawai. The Swing ceremony was regarded by the Brahmins as a new year's celebration and was performed to greet Shiva on his yearly 10 day visit to Earth. The event was discontinued during the reign of King Rama VII. Today, the Giant Swing is a symbol of the enduring prosperity of Bangkok as the capital of Thailand.

Chinatown is one of Bangkok's top attractions to check out. it is an old business district covering a large area around Yaowarat Road and Charoen Krung Road.
